Monday, May 27, 2019 at 1 PM: Flower Drop Ceremony

WHAT: The annual Palm Springs Air Museum’s Memorial Day Ceremony & Air Fair

After a brief ceremony with color guard and singing of the National Anthem: World War II PB4Y Tail Gunner Lt. Col. Russ Mulvany will be honored, and receive Congressional presentation from US Representative Dr. Raul Ruiz

Four fighters will fly overhead and make the missing man formation.

World’s Only Flying PB4Y-2 Privateer – flying exhibition

Other scheduled aircraft are: P-51 Mustang, P-63, C-47, T-28, F4U Corsair, T-33 and B-25 Mitchell Bomber

A vintage heavy bomber will come out of the European Hangar, take off, and after a couple of passes, drop 3,000 red and white carnations from the sky over the Museum’s tarmac behind the museum. The flower drop honors and memorializes all veterans who lost their life defending the US. The white carnations are in honor of those who fought in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The red carnations are in honor of those who died in more recent conflicts including the Persian Gulf, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pilot JD (Jim Dale) will make the flower drop – JD was the original pilot who did the first Flower Drop and continued for over 10 years!

In advance of the 1 PM Memorial Day Ceremony and Flower Drop:

Flight exhibitions start at 10 am

11 am – Unveiling of Clay Lacy Lear Jet

Music by Heatwave Jazz Band

Children’s activities (Totally Twisted Entertainment: Balloon Creations, Harpo the Clown, Knights of Columbus helium balloons)

Food vendors include In ‘n Out Burger Truck, Cone Zone, Fries Galore, Kone Pizza, and Freedom Fighters’ Cafe

Friendly pets on leash ok

Free off-site parking with free shuttle service

Air Fair and Memorial Day Ceremony is included with regular admission to the museum which ranges from $10.50 to $17.50. Active Military and their immediate family with ID and children 5 and under are free. Family rates are $40 and $50, depending on the age of the children. Warbird rides, food and drink are not included with museum admission.
