Did you know? With the addition of 12 new beaches in 2018, Los Cabos is home to a total of 19 certified Blue Flag beaches. Headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Blue flag program is operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education, one of the leading environmental groups from around the globe.
The Blue Flag certificate is a prime indicator that lets the public know that the beach you are situated on has passed and continues to meet a series of stringent “environmental, educational, safety-related and access-related criteria.” In today’s newsletter we highlight a handful of the 19 certified beaches in wonderful Los Cabos.

Playa Santa Maria
This Blue Flag certified beach is a can’t miss. The coastal horseshoe-shaped beach received its Blue Flag back in 2014 and has since maintained the distinguished honour. The sandy beachfront is disabled friendly, features on site restroom facilities and is only a short ride from both San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The waterfront is even often visited by whales with their calf’s, along with other colourful sea life. Playa Palmilla
Widely known as one of the best swimming beaches in all of Los Cabos, Playa Palmilla is a blue flag certified beach for all! Certified in 2013, the colourful sandy beach front offers a wide variety of activities and events, including kayaking, snorkelling, swimming, fishing and even hosts the swimming portion of the annual Ironman Los Cabos 70.3 half-triathlon. A short walk or ride from many incredible restaurants and hotels, Playa Palmilla is a prime location. Playa Las Viudas
Marked as a blue flag since 2017, Playa Las Viudas is one of the most commonly photographed beaches in Los Cabos. Known for its majestic natural volcanic rock formations, tourists flock from all over Cabo just to take a stroll over the landmark. Though quite rocky, the beach is a great spot to stroll, lounge and enjoy the day with family and friends. Playa Acapulquito
Nicknamed Old Man’s Beach, Playa Acapulquito is far from your regular old beachfront. Located along beautiful crystal blue waters and only a short drive from downtown San José del Cabo this beach has quickly developed into a hot spot for local surfers. Certified in 2017, the Blue Flag beach is swimming and snorkelling friendly, but is most well known for its surfing community. The property is often host to many surfing competitions. Opportunity for surf board rentals and lessons can be found at one of the many surf shops in the area.
