Top Things to Do in San Diego This Weekend

Cruise on down to San Diego this week and enjoy everything California’s Beach City has to offer including Chicano Park Day, Easter, and these top things to do.

When: April 15-19, 2019 Where: Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101 Live bands and dancers will perform on the Plaza de Panama stage starting at 4:00 p.m., and various park and community organizations will host free hands-on activities for families on select dates. There will also be a rotating selection of games and activities on the Plaza, including giant checkers, hula hoops, bowling, cornhole, and giant tumbling blocks.


When: April 16 – May 5, 2019 Where: Del Mar Fairgrounds 22nd DAA – 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, CA 92014 Each year the Del Mar National attracts more than 1,500 horses representing many breeds across three distinctly different disciplines – Western, Dressage, and Hunter/Jumper. Spectators will see world-class performances in reining with its famous spins and sliding stops, elegant and athletic dressage moves choreographed to music, and nail-biting daredevil show jumping! Evening events feature trick riders, comedy acts, thrills and spills, and breed demonstrations, among many other exciting acts. The competition for prize money, trophies, and ribbons is fierce!

When: April 16-21, 2019 Where: San Diego Civic Theatre – 1100 Third Ave, San Diego, CA 92101 CATS, the record-breaking musical spectacular by Andrew Lloyd Webber that has captivated audiences in over 30 countries and 15 languages, is now on tour across North America!

When: April 18-21, 2019 Where: Petco Park, San Diego, CA 92101 Catch the San Diego Padres take on the Cincinnati Reds at Petco Park! When: April 20, 2019 Where: Chicano Park, San Diego, CA 92113 Visitors to Chicano Park Day will experience traditional music and dance, including one of the largest groups of Aztec Indigenous dance, coordinated by Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca. The day will be filled with performances by ballet folklórico groups and numerous live bands, lowrider car show coordinated by Amigos Car Club, vendor booths, kids arts workshop and speakers.

Opens: April 20, 2019 Where: San Diego History Center – 1649 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101 I’m Not Like You: Notes from the San Diego Underground is an exhibition celebrating the creative energy, self-expression and independent spirit that distinguished skate, punk and hip-hop culture in San Diego from the 1970s through 1990s. During the two decades preceding the rise of the World Wide Web in 1991, and the subsequent ubiquity of social media and smartphones, highly localized subcultures formed and thrived throughout San Diego.

A fitting and festive reason to recognize his countless contributions to arts and culture around the world.
