Zurich's Winter Wonderland: Holiday Pop-Ups, A 'Christmas Island" and More

New York - December 2, 2020: Zurich transforms into a veritable wonderland during the holidays. In addition to its classic decorations and light installations, the city boasts a number of pop-ups and unique activities for the 2020 season.

A highlight is the Bauschanzli Christmas Island, located in the heart of Zurich. On November 19, the island transformed into an enchanting wonderland complete with mulled wine stands, a holiday food truck and pop-up Raclette 'Hüüsli' huts. Perfect for a cozy evening for four, these huts serve three-course menus including waffles, sausage and, of course, raclette, an indulgent dish of melted cheese.Yule Log, courtesy Park Hyatt Zurich Another is the Winter Garte garden next to Zurich's main train station. Offering plenty of space to socially distance, the wooden domed structure includes a bar, an atmospheric indoor area and a comfortable outdoor space for lingering. The luxurious Park Hyatt Zurich hotel, located near the illuminated Bahnhofstrasse, is festooned with festive decorations, Christmas trees and a miniature holiday market. In addition to a special Christmas menu at the parkhuus Restaurant (with dishes such as Swiss veal tartare and tangerine sorbet), Pastry Chef Tilo Herber offers guests the opportunity to collaborate in creating their own holiday treats - including the Yule Log. Zurich's festive culinary delights include several cheesy specials, such as fondue at the cozy Chalet Zuriberg, with its unique view over Zurich and the Alps, and raclette at Frau Gerold'sspacious winter garden. Jelmoli Marlitram in a new green color Additional attractions in Zurich include many open-air ice rinks (such as the Dolder, the first of its kind in Europe), several holiday markets and the famous Jelmoli Marlitram (Fairy Tale Tramway), which will debut a new green color - a symbol for hope. This season, the city is prioritizing COVID-19-related safety measures to ensure the 2020 holiday is both festive and safe.
